With burger joints saturating Brisbane like crazy right now, the choices are endless and it’s hard for any of them to stand out from the cluttered market.
Enter Ze Pickle. Formerly only located in Burleigh, they realised the potential in Brisbane and opened up shop in late 2015. They’ve been voted best burgers on the Gold Coast for two years running, and it’s easy to see why.
If you google the restaurant, the first words that will catch your eyes are ‘Killer Burgers’, and yes, these guys do an awesome range of them. They conjure up some disgustingly delicious meaty, cheesy, saucy burgers that would send most vegans and vegos into a full body seizure (although there are a few vegetarian options on the menu).
Their range of choices has something for everyone; the Chee-Ze for your simple mate, the 3AM for your hungover mate and the Pablo Escoburger for those looking for a bit of a punch in the face followed by a kiss on the forehead.
We couldn’t go past the Double Double. We were promised double the satisfaction, and we certainly felt it. We made the mistake of ordering wings with it – not that there was anything wrong with them, but we could barely finish the burger itself. The sweetness of the double maple smoked bacon mixed with Ze Pickle’s signature sauce was a match made in heaven.
The Brisbane restaurant itself is really chilled, has plenty of room and holds a real laid back vibe. They’ve got plenty of craft beers on tap, but they’re probably a couple of dollars more than what they should be.
The only thing we could fault was that it took almost an hour for our burgers to come, but we went at midday on a Sunday, so we shot ourselves in the foot, really. With narrow and steep streets surrounding the restaurant, parking can be a bit of a pain, but we found a couple of spots on the adjacent Prospect Street – that’s your best bet.
Kick-ass burgers manufactured with a great sense of creativity and knowledge of flavours. Wide range of craft beers, however a bit on the expensive side.
