Zankiki Pizza

You can’t help but salivate wildly as the subtle smokiness of the air from a wood fired pizza oven breezes past you at Zankiki Pizza.

At only 2 months old, Zankiki Pizza is already a hit with the locals with most already familiar with Todd & Pup which is only a few doors down on Tarragindi road. It’s a given that you’re in for a treat with the same trusty owners.

Zankiki Pizza is the home of gourmet pizza but the menu doesn’t stop there. You can get all of your favourite classic pizzas as well as speciality pizzas, Pizza Bianche (white pizzas),  pasta and a variety of desserts.  All pizzas are served hot, straight from the wood fired pizza oven and as you would expect, the pizza bases are to die for. It is even more impressive to know that everything is made in house.

Pizze Bianche, also known as a white pizza is a great change to the traditional tomato sauce based pizzas. The Patate pizza with potato, Hickory brined mozzarella, grans adana, fresh rosemary and rosemary oil is so simple yet so delicious. The thin, crispy slices of potato with just enough rosemary will remind you of a Sunday afternoon roast.

The Pesto Chicken with fettuccini, caramelised onion, confit garlic, marinated chicken, pesto, sundried tomato, fresh basil, grana padana, basil oil is beautifully creamy. It is more of a tomato pesto rather than a basil pesto though. The portion size is generous and has plenty of chicken throughout.

A great option from the classic range is the BBQ Meatlovers pizza. In a bit of a twist from what you would usually expect, the pizza includes Hickory BBQ sauce, marinated beef, rendered speck, caramelised onion, confit garlic, salami picante, mozzarella  and speck oil. This pizza is next level fancy with well thought out flavours and combinations. The only aspect that you should be aware of is the chunks of confit garlic, it is an acquired taste and tends to override other flavours.

All around, this is an up and coming pizza and pasta spot that will only get better with time. It is really well priced in comparison to the portion sizes; you will probably even have to take some home. Takeaway option is also available if you do not want to dine in.

Opinion

A great wood fired pizzeria with an option for everyone's taste. The fresh crust will have you coming back for more.
