The first sense you get when you enter the Woolloongabba Hotel is one of comfort and familiarity; although it is entirely indoors it has a feeling of openness and lightness. The staff were the real highlight though and absolutely what gives the Woolloongabba Hotel it's welcoming vibe; they were all incredibly friendly and happy to help. It has a real family friendly feel and the clientele seemed to be a mix of families and friends having a mid week catch up.
The menu is a mix of pub staples such as pork loaded fries and Black Angus rump as well as some more interesting choices such as crispy pork belly and a pear, fig and blue cheese salad. I was initially eyeing off the popcorn chicken as a starter however the chef recommended I try the bruschetta and I’m very glad he did . It was an excellent mix of salty Parmesan, sweet tomatoes and bitey garlic.
The Woolloongabba Hotel also has daily specials; which was schnitzels on the day I visited. There were a few different options but I couldn’t go past the herb prawns and salt and pepper squid. It was delicious; real classic pub food. The prawns were perfectly cooked and the salt and pepper squid was super crispy. Sadly the salad suffered from a common ailment; too much dressing and not enough originality of ingredients. However this didn't take away from the overall enjoyment of the meal.
Woolloongabba Hotel is ideal for a midweek meal with your family.
