What to do this Weekend: Issue 1

There’s no doubt we're all looking forward to the Labour Day long weekend, but just to get you that little bit more excited, here’s Black Book’s long weekend line-up of events.

 

Latin Friday Nights at Brisbane Square

Dust off your dancing shoes because Latin Friday Nights at Brisbane Square will have you dancing the night away. Learn the basic steps of Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia and Reggaeton at the free dance classes held at 8pm each Friday night. Don’t fret if you’ve never tried Latin dancing before, newcomers are always welcome! No bookings are required. Come in early to watch some Latin dancers show off their skills from 7pm.

Davies Park Market, West End

Each Saturday between 6am and 2pm, you'll find the Davies Park Market under the enormous fig trees off Montague Road, at the end of Jane Street in West End. Whether you're after some fresh fruit and veggies, your morning coffee, tasty breakfast, some unique gifts, or just a wander under the shady trees, this market won't disappoint.


 

Buddha Birthday Festival

The Buddha Birthday Festival is back at Southbank parklands this weekend. In celebration of Buddha’s birthday, between 9am and 9pm, Friday 28th of April 2017 to Sunday 30th of April 2017, you can enjoy multicultural performances of Kung Fu, Lion Dance, Dragon Dance; attend free Buddhist talks; relax with some free meditation; experience a tea ceremony; and, of course, feast on a variety of cuisines sold at the food trucks and stalls. There will also be a fireworks display at 7:30pm on Sunday April 30th 2017. Entry to the event is free.

Brisbane Video Game and Pop Culture Market

Super Nintendo, NES, N64, GameCube, Master System, Mega Drive, XBOX, WII, Saturn, Atari, Playstation, DS, PSP, Gameboy…This year’s Brisbane Video Game and Pop Culture Market will feature these and more! It all takes place from 9am - 12pm on Sunday the 30th of April at Shady Palms: 427 Logan Rd, Stones Corner. It's Free Entry, so bring your friends! You’ll be able to find yourself some classic retro video games, consoles, accessories, toys, comics and other pop culture gear at this market, so go get your game on this Sunday!

Stones Corner Festival

The 2017 Stones Corner Festival will be held on Sunday April 30th 2017 between 12pm and 10pm with free entry. This year, the popular street party boasts a line-up of marvellous music, the Yak Ales Beer Garden, and plenty of food trucks including: Catch and Kiss Seafood, Chipstars, That BBQ Joint, Wing Fix. Churros and Chocolate Spanish Doughnuts, Rolling Stone Woodfired Pizza, Doggie’s Hotdogs, How We Rolls, The Frying Piggy and Greek Street Kantina.
