Nestled along Stanley Street East, bordering Woolongabba and Cooperoo, The Smug Fig is a perfect spot for your weekend breaky without any fuss. Formerly occupied by The Secret Garden Cade, the lush, green garden cafe that shares its location with a nursey and antique store with something that gets extra browny points from us - space!
Seriously, how many times are you cramped into a little cafe that can barely hold 20 people, bumping and squeezing past people everytime you go in and out? This place has 'Family Friendly' written all over it - it evens has a little play corner for the kids! The youthful staff are vibrant and helpful, and they make a killer coffee from their cute little pop-up window at the front of the cafe.
Their menu is simple and probably a dollar or two above the average breakfast in Brisbane, but each dish is executed perfectly. The 'Fig Brekkie' is the go to choice from our perspective. The bacon and eggs (poached) were cooked to perfection, but it was the house made potato hash that topped it. Really impressive from a corner store cafe!
We also gave the 'Smug Benny' a crack. Again, the eggs were faultless and the mustard hollandise sauce was nice and not too heavy like a lot of hollandaise sauces can be.
Family friendly cafe which encompasses a simple but well executed range of meals. Coffee kicks ass!
