As it says on their menu, you can Break your Fast at the Shady Palms Cafe and Bar at Stones Corner. It is not however your typical cutesy cafe with VJ walls, fresh flowers and beautiful decor. This shady cafe on Brisbane's southside is the perfect mix of grunge, recycled furniture from yesteryear and the fabulous flavours of America. Not only do they cater for breakfast, if you stay long enough there's also selfies (food for one), shared plates, sliders, burgers and tacos to help you get over the night before or your choice of beverages at the bar to get the night started.

With ample seating inside and a large backyard dining area outside there was no need to wait in line for a table when we arrived. The cafe has a very relaxed and friendly vibe which was reflected in the attitudes of their helpful staff. We chose a table out the back in the shade and treated ourselves to a Meerburg freshly squeezed juice with pineapple, orange and watermelon and a house-made salted caramel shake which was far to moreish to be good for you.

We tried the 'Full Shady' breakfast which had it all. The corn bread for me was slightly dry and the kransky dog was a little too much for breakfast but the well cooked poached eggs, crispy bacon and roasted tomatoes were very tasty and the generous serving size was a plus. We also gave the 'Gringo Quesadilla' a try. This was not something I would normally get for breakfast but being one of the Shady Palms signature breakfasts I thought, why not! It was definitely worth trying as the spiced mince and cheese quesadilla topped with a fried eggs, pineapple salsa and house-made ranch was both different and delicious.

The Shady Palms Cafe and Bar is the perfect place to indulge in not only a hearty breakfast, but also in an extensive and varied menu for lunch and dinner full of American flavours and some must try beverages. I would definitely make a return trip to try the pulled pork sliders and the Jamaican spiced chicken wings with friends on a Sunday afternoon. It is somewhere you can come after a night out to eat and relax in the fresh air, wake up with quality coffee on a Saturday morning or just to enjoy lunch with friends.

The Shady Palms is well located in Stones Corner and is within walking distance of the busway if you're catching public transport. There is also two hour free secure parking near by or street parking available.
