Hidden away in the heart of the Garden City Westfield maze is The Palms Mediterranean Bar & Grill. A picturesque summer oasis providing an array of vibrant, seasonal drinks to compliment the menus delectable layout of Mediterranean-inspired cuisine.
Head Chef, Brad Jolly, brings over 22 years of culinary skills and knowledge to the table for a rare find far from Brisbane's CBD.
While listening to the bubbling of the water falls outside the open-planned restaurant, we delighted in some of The Palms' popular cocktails, starting with their signature Char-grilled Pineapple Mojito. This cocktail alone is one to make us go back. Well balanced in flavours, the Char-Grilled Pineapple Mojito is rich in juice while presenting a little spice from the rum. To top it off, the garnishing piece of pineapple is also soaked in delicious pineapple syrup. With an additional Palms Pimms Cup overflowing with fresh fruit and one of the smoothest Espresso Martinis I've ever had, the cocktail menu alone is reason enough to escape to this local getaway.
Diving into some Mediterranean food, we found ourselves being refreshed by the beautifully light Calamari. In contrast to the regular Calamari you may find, The Palms lightly coated their squid and tossed it with zucchini sticks, arugula salad and lemon dressing to create a beautiful and refreshing entree. The Palms' strength lied in it's grill. Offering various choices of meats, we indulged in Palms Mixed Grill. Using the Josper Grill method to enhance the flavour of the meat we found the kebabs to be rich, juicy and perfectly tender. The chicken fell apart in your mouth, while the lamb burst with flavour as the tender meat came away from the stick. Served with a wholesome salad, Palms Mixed Grill leaves you satisfied after the journey of a million flavours.
The fit out was something you'd see at an island resort; blue, yellow, and white tied together by the the natural, wooden features and a bubbling water fall. Sunshine flooded the restaurant, accompanied by the cool autumn air and it truly feels like you're somewhere entirely outside of Brisbane. Although the drive is a little inconvenient for those located in the CBD and northern suburbs, it's definitely a great location to hit if you're feeling like a change of scenery.
Great place to catch up with friends for drinks. Friendly and helpful staff. Worth the drive.
