Tucked in the vicinity of Stanley Street Plaza is Nitrogenie, a counter-serve ice-cream shop with a special twist to its ice-cream making process: using liquid nitrogen. From its exterior, it no doubt stands out with a futuristic vibe - lining all-black walls with neon lights and upbeat music. Lucky for us Brisbanites, this shop is located right in the heart of Southbank - making it the perfect location to lay back and unwind.
At their “Ice Cream Genie Master Class”, Blackbook Brisbane had the chance to experience the mystics of making these sweet Nitrogenie delights. With the right mix of fresh, daily-made anglaise and authentic food ingredients in a steel bowl, it is then blended with a machine.
Then comes the fun part: pouring in the right amount of liquid nitrogen, which releases a temporary, whimsical trance of white fog, giving hope that the end product will taste just as enchanting. The nitrogen then disappears back into the air like magic, leaving the mix with a smooth, creamy texture and ready to consume – after the final touches of course! Each flavour has a twist to its toppings, giving each scoop a sight to remember.
In light with their new UberEats menu, Blackbook had a try of their extensive flavour range. The “Salted Caramel Honeycomb Crunch” proved a spasm for the taste buds with a balanced salty and sweet ratio matched with the crunch of crushed Cadbury “Crunchies”. “Nutella Ella Ella” on the other hand screams yes for chocoholics - with a thick texture as expected from Nutella and a strong richness in chocolate sensation. “Peppermint Brownie”, one of their two newer flavours, gives a light, refreshing touch of mint. There are also actual brownie chunks in the mix, swirled in to give it that chewiness. Their second newest flavour, Berry Berry Sorbet, is deemed one of their harder ones to make... and the taste?
