South Bank’s Mucho Mexicano has opened a new Margarita Bar and we couldn’t be more pleased. I mean, who doesn’t love tequila?
The Margarita Bar is separate from the restaurant, meaning you can choose to go to Mucho Mexicano for a meal or to the Margarita Bar for a casual drinks. However the experience you get will be the same – loud, fun and vibrant!
Stepping into the bar Is like stepping into a Mexican fiesta, with colourful horse piñatas hanging from the roof and a live mariachi band playing in the corner. The bar has a wide variety of tequilas for you to choose from, with bar staff able to make a large selection of specialty cocktails.mSome of the cocktails offered have a bit of a kick, such as the Mexican Mule which consists of Tromba Blanco infused with chilli, ginger beer, mint and lime.
However, if you are more of a classic margarita drinker, you can’t go wrong with the Mucho Mexicano made of Tromba Blanco, triple sec, lime and simple syrup. Three of those and you’ll be dancing along to the live mariachi band in no time.
The food at the bar is your standard Mexican cuisine. The corn chips came with a generous serving of guacamole that consists of large chunks of avocado, and not much else.
The Hiramasa Kingfish Ceviche was very fishy and not even the strong lime dressing was enough to cover the taste.
The Pulled Chicken Tostada with jalapeno vinaigrette, sweet corn, avocado and coriander was bland but was made up for by the Drunken Tequila Prawn Skewers. The prawns were crispy and covered in tomatillo salsa. However, again, a bit too fishy for me.
The Aztec Chilli Brownie was soft and delicious. However, the star dish of the night was the Pumpkin & Haloumi Taco.
The pumpkin and haloumi were both crispy on the outside and melted in your mouth as soon as you bit into them. The generous serving of haloumi was covered in pepitas, coriander and sweet chipotle dressing. A perfect combination that had us asking for a second taco.
All up the food was nothing to rave about (except for the Pumpkin and Haloumi Taco). However, it is a Margarita BAR and what it lacks in food it certainly makes up for in the drinks and entertainment department.
The cocktails are tasty and fresh and the vibe of the bar is energetic. Perfect if you feel like a good time, washed down with some tasty cocktails.
The Margarita Bar is great for after work drinks or a Sunday afternoon. With so many choices of tequila, it is hard to go wrong!
Black Book Recommendation
You can't go past the Mexican Mule with Tromba Blanco infused with chilli, ginger beer, mint and lime. Watch out for that kick though.
