Lunar Banquet at Fat Noodle

It’s not often you find authentic food, generous servings and at affordable prices in the heart of the CBD. Fat Noodle hidden in the far corner of the Treasury Casino ticks all those boxes and more. It’s cozy, it’s intimate, it’s friendly and it’s simply amazing.

Maybe it’s personal, but a general stigma towards restaurants inside malls, casinos and hotels usually don’t live up to expectation – Fat Noodle is simply not the case, and wowed our taste buds more than most standalone restaurants, not only within the cuisine but just in general.

We were greeted and shown to a table promptly by a more than accommodating hostess who was quick to explain to us what to expect with the dishes and the service – perfect. It’s a small touch, but the extra staff member with the responsibilities creates such a positive vibe upon arriving rather than a rushed off her feet waitress.

Food-wise we opted for the Lunar Banquet given the time of year just passing Chinese New Year we thought it was fitting. The banquet included a sweet and sour pork dish, duck fried rice, prawn dumplings, gai lan with oyster sauce and for the main a whole fried barramundi paired with a bottle of Morgan’s Bay Wine. Let me start with addressing the barramundi – as you can see from the picture, this dish was HUGE! And boy was it satisfying. The fish was succulent, and was fried perfectly. It was stuffed with chilli and came with a spicy sauce which complimented nicely.

The real surprise of the meal though was the sweet and sour pork. Now I know what you’re thinking – sweet and sour pork is a fan favorite and is not exactly an uncommon dish. Well given that, I can then say I’ve eaten the dish many of times and this really stopped me in my tracks. The whole meal I could not stop picking away at it until the point of where I’d not even shared it at all.

Although the barramundi may not be available on the menu at all times – we can vouch for the sweet and sour pork and duck fried rice. Bang for your buck, and a great location for date night any night of the week. It doesn’t hurt that you have the casino about 10 meters away from you either!
