Lock ‘n’ Load Bistro

Located on the main street in West End, Lock ‘n’ Load fits in perfectly with its surroundings.

For anyone who loves West End, Lock ‘n’ Load is the bistro for you. Like the West End crowds, a mixture of vintage wearing hippies and trendy upmarket millennials, Lock ‘n’ Load has the same eclectic vibe. A modern Australian bistro possessing a bohemian flare and lots of character.

The front of the bistro is often filled with live music, especially on a Sunday. Upstairs is more private, offering outside seating on the veranda overlooking the street. Perfect for people-watching (my favourite past time in West End). However, the best part of the bistro is out the back. Upon exiting, you enter a tranquil garden courtyard that makes you instantly forget you are in the middle of the city.

It's obvious that Lock ‘n’ Load’s chefs take care when constructing their menu. Where possible, the ingredients are sourced from local farms around the greater Brisbane region. The food is tasty and fresh, with the added bonus of making you feel good about supporting local farmers.

We tried the BBQ Brisket Bagel with rocket, red cheddar, fried egg and bacon jam. The fried egg was the perfect consistency, with a slightly running yolk that oozed all over the bagel as soon as you cut into it. The bacon jam was sweet and full of flavor. This was one of the best dishes we had.

Next was the Herb Chickpeas Fritters with cherry tomato, cucumber & olive salad, grilled flat bread, tzatziki. The Herb Chickpeas Fritters were crunchy, and when covered in tzatziki sauce, went down a treat. This dish is a great vegetarian option, as it comes with the ability to add grilled haloumi to the plate.

Another fantastic dish on the menu is the Braised Beef Soft Tacos with lettuce, salsa, sour cream and jalapenos. The tacos are soft and the braised beef cooked perfectly.

Next we tried the 13hr Pulled Pork Sandwich with crunchy slaw, house bbq sauce, chilli fries. The sandwich was bland but made up for by the flavorsome chilli fries. When they say chilli fries, they really mean it. Those fries packed a punch.

We washed down our lunch with a shared jug of cocktails, opting for the Loaded Pimms Cup. A classic summer quencher with gin, Italian vermouth, cucumber and mint, topped with lemonade.

Open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, Lock ‘n’ Load fits all occasions. You can sit inside and listen to some live music, people-watch from the balcony or choose to wander outside and soak up the ambience of the garden courtyard. I’ll definitely be back!
