Creativity can often go astray with Breakfast meals in Brisbane, with not a whole lot of cafes thinking outside the box with their menu. Enter Hop Scotch & Beans.
There’s a number of upsides to this quaint Petrie Terrace café, from its revitalised al fresco layout to their diverse dishes with a unique twist. Seeing as they roast their own beans in-store, it’s no surprise their rich-flavoured coffee was one of the highlights of our visit.
If you don’t shy away from a full-rounded brekkie, you have to try the home-made confit chorizo hash cakes. Topped with a generous serving of smoked salmon, perfectly poached eggs and hollandaise sauce, it’s the makings of a seriously satisfying meal that won’t leave any space left in the belly!
If, on the other hand, you’re in desperate need of a sugar hit, you can’t go past the 65 Roses Blueberry Hotcakes. This is where that C word ‘creativity’ really shines. The dish’s presentation emulates the elegant flavours, with the mix of vanilla mascarpone, fresh berries and pepitas also contributing positively to the overall texture. What’s the best part about this dish? The good fellas at Hop Scotch & Beans donate $2 to a Cystic Fibrosis foundation from every purchase. Bravo, lads!
Being located literally a stone’s throw away from Caxton Street, these guys also know how to throw a party. Their craft beer range is extensive and offer a handy amount of lunch and dinner options too, making it the perfect spot to start a night or catch a bite before a game.
Quaint al fresco cafe with a creative flair.
