Before we get started, let us provide you with a warning first. The Hamilton Hotel, also known as Graziers Steakhouse, isn’t just your standard pub meal!
To say we were surprised with the quality of food these guys served up would be an understatement. Admittedly, the only time we’d previously paid the ‘Hammo’ a visit was to knock back a couple of drinks after a day at the races. We’d never expected what we got!
The seating in the restaurant is a little bit confined; it was a struggle to find room to fit all dishes on the table. A serving of arancini balls and crab cakes w/ mango chutney kicked off our meal nicely, both of which tasted great. These selections were ordered off the tapas menu that’s dominated by a number of seafood offerings.
We thought we would carry the seafood trend into mains, and ordered the prawn & bug tail pasta along with the classic surf and turf. I was gobsmacked at the quality and quantity of seafood both dishes had. The prawn & bug tail pasta was probably the pick of the two, but only slightly. I had to double check I wasn’t in an authentic Italian restaurant. From the creamy white wine sauce down to the linguini, these guys nailed it! The surf and turf was nothing like we had seen before. The steak was a quality eye fillet cut cooked to perfection, topped with a Moreton Bay bug, red wine jus and hollandaise sauce.
The pick of the desserts would be the ‘death by chocolate fondant’. Although we survived the fondant, it certainly sent us into a food coma. The warm, rich molten center was to die for, no doubt the inspiration for the dish’s name!
You won't find many pub meals better than this in Brisbane. Huge range of meals and located ideally for both north and southsiders. A little expensive.
