During the recent winter storm we took refuge in Bloodhound Corner Bar on Brunswick St. It was instantly warm and inviting with exposed brick walls, wooden floors and soft lighting. Bloodhound Corner Bar is split over two stories; upstairs has more of a relaxed date night vibe with lots of comfy couches and live music and downstairs (where we decided to sit) has a more traditional bar feel; very vibrant and fun. The staff definitely add to the welcoming vibe; they are all charming, helpful and a little bit cheeky.
Bloodhound Corner Bar has a Latin American focused menu and it was hard to work out what to try first. We ended up ordering the Tabla de queso to start; goat’s cheese, brie and blue cheese served with fig paste, sultanas and tortilla chips. It was a really good balance of salty and sweet, with the goat’s cheese being a particular favourite. We then decided we had to try the tacos and after a bit of debate went with the Del Perro (beef), Al Pastor (pork) and De Nopales (cactus). Both the beef and pork taco were as delicious as expected but the cactus was the real star. Served with guacamole, pickled onion and radish it was a brilliant vegetarian option.
The cocktail list was an excellent mix of more traditional options like margaritas and martinis as well as many house inventions. I tried the 50 Shades of Grey (a mix of earl grey infused gin, lavender syrup, lemon juice and egg white) and thoroughly enjoyed it. The tap list is short but interesting and the bottled beer list was extensive - it would take a long time to work through all of the possibilities. The wine list is small but well chosen - in the interest of research my dining partners and I all picked a different red to try and can report they were all fantastic.
Bloodhound Corner Bar is perfect for a night out with your lover or to have a few bevvies with your friends
