Best of the Food Burbs: Paddington

Everytime a fellow Blackbooker decides to eat out, whether it be brekky, lunch or dinner and anything in between, Paddington is a suburb that certainly doesn't lack in dining options. The main drag, Latrobe Terrace, is the home to some of Brisbane’s best eateries - here's a list of our absolute faves!

106 Latrobe Terrace, Paddington QLD 4064

Continually changing beers and wines, Remy’s is the perfect spot to chill on a Saturday arvo with friends. Oh and did we mention the burgers? What appears to be a simple menu can fool you. These burgers ooze with flavours cooked just the way you want. We recommend the classic cheeseburger or the chicken from this menu. Also make sure you check out the weekly specials as well as live Jazz music and Dj’s on rotation.

Chapter IV

180 Latrobe Terrace, Paddington QLD 4064

Tucked away in the quieter part of Paddington is where you’ll find one of your new ‘go-to’ cafes  Chapter IV - delightful, homely, charming and sincere. Greeted with happy smiling faces, the staff are ever helpful and accommodating. The Soft-Shell Crab eggs benedict is just indulgent and accompanied with the gooiest of delicate poached eggs.

Small Talk Espresso

251 Given Terrace, Paddington QLD 4064

Small in size but big in flavour, Small Talk Espresso is the detour off Given Terrace worth taking. The fit out comes in the form of old Paddington bank vault and features quirky furniture and décor that’ll keep you guessing.

224 Given Terrace, Paddington QLD 4064

Onto something a little fancier and Montrachet ticks all of those boxes. A fine dining wonderland, Montrachet is a refined French brasserie with red leather seats, a marble-top bar and glit-framed mirrors.  The cuisine showcases traditional French gastronomic cooking with best produce that Brisbane has to offer. The service gleams above everything else with a professional and sophisticated edge.

Sassafras Canteen

88 Latrobe Terrace, Paddington QLD 4064

Burrowed along Paddington’s bustling Latrobe Terrace is where you’ll find this quaint garden café, where the fresh and lush dining setting emulates what these guys are all about. If you’ve got a furry, four-legged friend that will keep you company in your friend’s absence, that’s okay – this place is very much dog-friendly. You’ll find plenty in the back garden courtyard!

Kathmandu Newa Chhe’n

72 Latrobe Terrace, Paddington QLD 4064

And now for something completely different… There are not many places in Brisbane where one can experience Nepalese food at its finest. Traditional decorations and a homely environment make for a more relaxed dining space, fully immersing diners into a foreign world of exotic flavours and aromas. The menu boasts all mains being gluten free and dairy free with many vegan options.

Café De Siam

6/147 Latrobe Terrace, Paddington QLD 4064

Now this wouldn’t be a good list without including our favourite Thai restaurant. Café De Siam just about ticks all of our boxes for affordability and taste, as well as fast service. You can get a main here for under $20 including a Thai milk tea. Our personal recommendations from the menu are the Pad Thai (of course) and the Green Curry.

Shouk Café

14 Collingwood St, Paddington QLD 4064

Yes, it’s no surprise that Shouk Café is on the list here. There is obviously a reason why most Brisbane brunch goers are aware of this place – the food is so damn good! Such a great twist in the menu featuring Middle Eastern flavours. Reccomendations include the Latke Stack - simply amazing. We only recommend ringing ahead or going off peak times on the Weekend – this place gets busy!

It’s Mirchi Healthy Indian

284 Given Terrace, Paddington QLD 4064

its mirchi

Boasting itself as the only healthy Indian restaurant in Brisbane, It’s Mirchi (named after the spice, which translates to Chilli in English) offers a wide selection of vegan, gluten free and healthy options with a focus on using certified organic produce. Quality Indian fare which caters for a large number of food intolerances.

Chocolate Orange on Latrobe

179 Latrobe Terrace, Paddington QLD 4064

chocolate orange

By far the warmest welcome we’ve had to a café. Chocolate Orange’s greatest asset is the café itself. The place is huge house converted into a café with dining rooms all over. If that weren’t enough, the leafy green seating out the back will certainly satisfy. Hot tip – make sure you try some of the goodies from the counter.

Smoked Paprika

9/65 MacGregor Terrace, Bardon QLD 4065

smoked paprika

Sitting on the cusp of Paddington, Smoked Paprika is most definitely worth including on our list. The food was simply some of the best we’ve found on the Brisbane brekky scene. Generous servings that pack a punch with hint of spice that you just don’t get from anywhere else. All in all, this café is definitely up there, and tick all the boxes for us. Flavoursome dishes and amazing coffee at more than reasonable prices make Smoked Paprika a go to place, and a must try on the Brisbane brekkie scene.
