Best of the Food Burbs: New Farm

New Farm is the host to so many great food and drink outlets! Don’t believe me? Take a trip down Brunswick Street and see for yourself. There aren’t many cuisines that you can’t find here, so you can imagine the difficulty we had when attempting to compile a list of some of the best. So here it is – Blackbooks list on the best of New Farm.

The Smoke BBQ

Merthyr Village Shopping Centre, 9/85 Merthyr Rd, New Farm QLD 4005

While I remember these guys more for their kick-ass beef short ribs, The Smoke BBQ also has some smashing wings to get you started. Smoke BBQ is tucked away in Merthyr shopping village but is not to be missed. This place gets busy, so ensure you book ahead!

St Baxter

693 Brunswick St, New Farm QLD 4005

st baxter

Sticking with the Mexican theme (kind of), this Californian restaurant boasts a selection of traditional Cali dishes with a Southern twist. One thing you’re guaranteed when you visit St Baxter is a whole lot of flavour. Their Chorizo con Papas is a must order from the street food selections, while the Roast Suckling Pig served in iceberg cups is outstanding.

Located in Merthyr Road in New Farm, a 35 year history separates the New Farm Deli from any other cafes in this area.  Once known as a deli serving continental gourmet delights, the cafe now, with years of experience, prides itself on a natural progression to extend their delicatessen into a cafe serving good quality food and providing great service.

The Ponycat

693 Brunswick St, New Farm QLD 4005

On the main drag, you have probably driven past The Ponycat a hundred times and not even noticed it. The thing you’ll notice most when dining here is the huge blackboard displaying all the food specials they have. The specials reflect seasonal availability of produce so take extra consideration when reading over them. As well as coffee being a standout here, we also recommend the zucchini corn fritters – they are not to be missed.

DA’Burger

876 Brunswick St, New Farm QLD 4005

da burger

DA’burger is quite simply just an awesome place to go. Very chilled out vibes and extremely friendly staff who are hungry for feedback and go out of the way to make sure you are satisfied. What really tipped us was the freshness of the ingredients. There is nothing better than a hot Pattie served with crunchy flavoursome and fresh lettuce on a soft bun.

Koya Yakitori

1/702-706 Brunswick St, New Farm QLD 4005

koya yakitori

Walk into this place and the first thing you’ll notice is the huge pink blossom tree in the middle of the restaurant. It ties in with the décor perfectly and gives such a cool authentic feel to it. This place has got to be the best yakitori for the best price in New Farm easily, but a personal recommendation would be the salmon from the sashimi menu – so fresh!

Bar Alto

119 Lamington St, New Farm QLD 4005

You may have already inadvertently stumbled across Bar Alto before if you are an avid play goer or just a Powerhouse fanatic. The extended bar looks over the Brisbane river with elegance and style and is the perfect spot for a casual drink or meal before a show.

Escobar Kitchen & Bar

4/154 Merthyr Rd, New Farm QLD 4005

escobar

There is a really cool selection of cocktails here as well as a wide variety of craft beers and wines. They also serve food till late, which tick all the boxes with us. Really friendly staff with extensive knowledge of the menu items, the beef cheeks as recommended failed to disappoint. This is the perfect place to go for Saturday afternoon drinks.

Pablo

893 Brunswick St, New Farm QLD 4005

pablo

Pablo is by far one of our favourite places to dine when looking for a clean, green and mean breakky. The menu here has got you covered for anything you may fancy, from breakfast triffle to ricotta hotcakes! Pablo can get super busy, but for a very special reason, so we recommend visiting on quieter day of the week. Nonetheless, the staff were friendly and efficient in getting everyone seated and served.

Bella Tiarnie

2/620 Brunswick St, New Farm QLD 4005

Italian food can be difficult to perfect, but that is not case at Bella Tiarne. The menu had its traditional items and some with a twist which do not dissapoint. We recommend the the ‘Isabella’ pasta, simply for the flavours from the mushrooms in the dish. The fit out is beautiful and is the perfect spot for date night or a Friday night.
