I love Vietnamese food; I love how fresh, light and packed with flavour it is, so I was very excited to sit down and sample what Aunty Oh! has to offer.
The bar/restaurant sits beneath heritage-listed jacaranda trees illuminated by traditional red Vietnamese lanterns from the outside deck – giving such a beautiful, warm and most of all, inviting atmosphere.
The menu pull’s you in on first glance with its creativity and its focus on bigger share plates. Firstly I tried absolutely delicious Vietnamese mint (fresh mint, pomegranate, fresh lime, soda water and Ketel one vodka). I cannot recommend this drink enough - so damn refreshing and tasty. First dish to arrive at the table was the Grazing platter. It has a little bit of everything - pork spring rolls, chicken rice paper rolls with the vegetarian dumplings proving to be a personal favourite.
Are you an ale enthusiast? Then you need to get on the Bia Hanoi! I've never tried Vietnamese beer before but I really enjoyed it, giving such a clean and bright taste – maybe its time I started shopping in the imports section.
My favorite meal of the day was the Crispy Pork Belly. The pork was so tender and cooked to perfection, served with a side of rice and crunchy Vietnamese Slaw. Another really tasty dish (and something for these bloody cold days) is the Pho Ga Hanoi, poached tender chicken. A perfect alternative if pork belly isn't your thing!
A couple more cocktails I indulged in were the Watermelon, lime, mint, star Anise and soda water cocktail & the Coconut cream - made with coconut water, pineapple and Pamparo Blanco Rum. These were two really fruity cocktails which complement the Vietnamese cuisine perfectly, giving the restaurant such a unique feel to it.
After a contentious couple of months, Aunty Oh! Should by no means be overlooked providing the quintessential and most vital elements a diner should hope for when dining in. Amazing service, fresh food and a large, creative assortment of beverages will be sure to keep the customers returning.
I can’t boast about the service enough! Its literally make or break for me when it comes to dining, as it’s the welcoming vibe that sits in you’re the back mind when deciding where to go on a Friday night.
Fresh & tasty Vietnamese cuisine to be shared with friends in a lively and vibrant atmosphere, Where can you go wrong?
