The Brisbane food scene is bustling with business, fighting for your attention and constantly pushing the boundaries for options and value.
Barcadia has been boasting on social media for some time about their 50c wings Wednesday special. I had to check it out!
So what happened?
The man who served me on arrival told me that the wings special was only available when you bought a drink. This is regardless of the fact that the five friends I was with were not forced to do so, and the bar was full of people drinking table water.
I was then given a stern warning and told next time I'll be upheld to this, and was made to feel as though I was duping the nature of the promotion. Not a great vibe.
I must admit!
Why would you go to a bar if you didn’t want to drink?
Well, the bar is in an affluent area in Bulimba known for food, and the attraction came from their social media advertising. No mention of a mandatory drink purchase here.
Overall, I ended up spending $20, which is the price you pay for an actual meal in an actual restaurant, not bar snacks. With this condition, it is really hard to find any value in comparison to other eatieries – so not much value here. The wings are rushed, small and taste cheap with the blue cheese sauce watered down.
Baracadia will really lose a lot of value out of their brand by luring people in with great specials and having conditions on arrival.
